Trust-based international networking is part of our research identity. This includes partner universities, scientific collaborations and staff mobility.

Information for our Partner Universities

We welcome students from our partner universities every semester. Nominations and applications for a semester abroad at our department are handled centrally by the LMU International Office, while we coordinate all questions regarding the content of the stay (such as course selection) directly.

The most important information at a glance:

  • Nomination deadlines:
    • April 15: Studies for the winter semester or for the entire academic year
    • October 15: Studies for the summer semester
  • Application deadlines:
    • May 15: for the winter semester
    • November 15: for the summer semester

Students who wish to study at our department under a partnership agreement (Erasmus+, UK, SEMP or LMUexchange) must be officially nominated by the department coordinators or the International Office at their home university.

We offer at least 30 ECTS credits worth of English-language courses each semester. The current course catalogue is available two months before the start of each semester.

The study visit is accompanied by several events that bring exchange students together with each other and with IfKW students. These include the Welcome Day and a Farewell Event. In addition, incoming students are invited to participate in central events at LMU.

Would you like to become a partner university?

We appreciate your interest in a partnership within the framework of Erasmus+, UK, SEMP, or LMUexchange. Students from universities that have an exchange agreement with our institute can spend one or two semesters at LMU as part of their studies. In addition to student exchanges, we also support exchanges at the staff level.

We have compiled some important background information here:

We offer at least 30 ECTS credits worth of English-language courses each semester. These include courses exclusively for exchange students as well as mixed courses/lectures. The courses are divided into the following modules:

  • Empirical communication research
  • Media institutions
  • Media relations
  • Academic writing

For exchange students, 5 ECTS credits are awarded for most regular seminars at the IfKW and 4 ECTS credits for lectures. For main- and compulsory elective seminars (advanced courses, 4 hours/week, strong focus on empirical research methods) you get 11 ECTS credits at bachelor's level and 15 ECTS credits at master's leve. For employees: International personnel mobility

IfKW employees have the opportunity to gain international experience, establish contacts, maintain existing collaborations, or initiate new ones as part of international staff mobility. The International Office coordinates a number of programs and funding opportunities for this purpose.

Support is provided for both guest lectureships with a teaching component and individual continuing education and training trips.

Teaching activities:

The Erasmus+ programme supports visiting lectureships by LMU lecturers at European partner universities with which an Erasmus agreement exists.
